(Media Release, The Hon Ted Baillieu MP, Premier)
The New Bendigo Hospital will be built as a Public Private Partnership, Premier Ted Baillieu confirmed today.
Speaking at the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia luncheon Mr Baillieu said the funding model would enable the hospital to be delivered on time and on budget, and to represent the best value for Victoria’s taxpayers.
“This will enable the Coalition Government to deliver a world class health facility for families in Bendigo and surrounding areas, with a $630 million investment in 21st century facilities,” Mr Baillieu said.
“We confirmed the extra $102 million for the bigger and better hospital in last month’s State Budget, taking the investment to a total of $630 million.
“Building the New Bendigo Hospital as a Partnerships Victoria project under the National Public Private Partnership guidelines represents value for money for the community,” Mr Baillieu said.
The project is on track for commencement of construction by the end of next year, and completion in 2016
Under the Partnerships Victoria framework, the hospital’s clinical services would continue to be publicly delivered.
The next step in the process will be the release of a public Expression of Interest.
The new Bendigo Hospital will be the largest regional hospital development in Victoria, and one of the biggest hospital projects across Australia.
“The Coalition Government is delivering on its commitment to build a bigger and better Bendigo Hospital,” Mr Baillieu said.
“The hospital will provide the flexibility to adapt and expand to meet future demands and ensure a sustainable health service into the future.”
