Local firm Hopley Demolition has been awarded a major demolition contract as part of the Bendigo Hospital Project.
Executive director New Bendigo Hospital David Walker said this project comprises the provision of demolition services required for the clearing of the Barnard Street site.
“We are delighted that a locally owned and operated company has demonstrated that they can offer specialist local knowledge, expertise and resources for this project.
“Works include asbestos removal and the demolition of the boiler house, chimney, commercial laundry and Ambulance Victoria building.
“Other works include the removal of an in ground diesel tank on the Ambulance Victoria site, the removal of building foundations and redundant services and equipment,” he said.
Demolition is set to commence in the coming months and will be completed in October.
Around 20 existing and five new local residents will be employed on this six month project.
Other local firms seeking an opportunity to supply materials and services to the New Bendigo Hospital project will benefit through a partnership between the Industry Capability Network (ICN) and Bendigo Health.
Mr Walker said that the ICN can assist by introducing products, services and capabilities directly to the project bidders for consideration.
“The partnership with the ICN is one way we can maximise the involvement of local firms in the New Bendigo Hospital project.
“Local firms wishing to participate in the New Bendigo Hospital project can register their interest at http://www.newbendigohospital.org.au/,” Mr Walker added.
