Media release from The Hon David Davis MLC, Minister for Health, Minister for Ageing Health Minister
David Davis announced the next step in the process for delivering the new Bendigo Hospital public-private partnership today.
In an important step towards delivering the project, Requests for Proposal documents have been released to the two shortlisted bidders for the project.
“The Requests for Proposal documents have now been finalised, setting out the Government’s detailed requirements for a state-of-the-art facility,” Mr Davis said.
“We have opened the Bendigo Health precinct to the two shortlisted bidders and we look forward to the bidders delivering responses which will meet the needs of the people of Bendigo, the Loddon Mallee region and Northern Victoria.
“There is flexibility in the final design of the new Bendigo Hospital, which allows for best value, innovative design responses from the bidders. They will submit their plans, designs and bid details later this year for assessment by the Government’s project team.
“This reaffirms the Victorian Coalition Government’s commitment to delivering a new $630 million health facility for families in Bendigo, the Loddon-Mallee region and Northern Victoria.
“The project will deliver better health outcomes and create 735 construction industry and supply chain jobs, providing a welcome boost to the local Bendigo economy. At least 300 of these jobs will be maintained for at least three years during the peak construction period for the hospital,” Mr Davis said.
The new Bendigo Hospital, which has a completion date of the end of 2016, is the largest regional hospital development in Victoria.
“The new Bendigo Hospital is a strategic project under the Victorian Industry Participation Policy which means that bidders will be required to meet local content targets,” said Mr Davis.
“The tender documents also require bidders to comply with the Victorian Government’s new Implementation Guidelines to the Victorian Code of Practice for the Building and Construction Industry. The Implementation Guidelines are designed to improve compliance with workplace laws, promote productivity and ensure value for money for Victorian taxpayers,” Mr Davis said.
